Architect Ignacio Zuberbuhler, Larreta’s grandson, inherited these lands and in the year 1995, together with his sons, he began a family project of a Resort and Country Club, including an 18-hole golf course surrounded by streams and rocky mounds, with a challenging layout that every level of golfers could enjoy. Initially, the course was designed by Angel Reartes jointly with the Zuberbuhler family, who then continued with the construction, and Architect Marcos Capdepont assessed them on the greens design. He used to stay at the main house in order to carry out the drawings while the golf course was under construction. Meadows were planted with tifway grass in the fairways therefore the course has an excellent sprinkler irrigation system. The greens are in accordance with USGA standards and are of agrostis. In December 1999 the front 9 holes and the Driving Range were inaugurated, using the resort hotel temporarily as Club House, while the back 9 holes were finished in 2003. In 2014, the spacious Club House, designed by architects Ignacio Zuberbuhler Larreta and Claudia Mestre, was inaugurated, maintaining the colonial-style imposed by Enrique Larreta. Today the bar on the 9th hole, which is located near the driving range, is used, thus providing more privacy to the resort hotel. The stream that runs across 5 of the front 9 holes is a unique feature of the El Potrerillo de Larreta golf course as it is one of the most outstanding difficulties. Another stream surrounds the back 9 holes; it also comes into play in 5 holes. The back holes are more difficult because they are longer in yardage. Another outstanding feature of the course is that from the beginning the landscape was kept as natural as possible, so that, even if there were some, the large earth movements are insignificant. On almost every hole there are 4 and 5 different set of tee boxes, thus we were able to enhance the enjoyment of the game regardless of skill levels, which without this advantage it would be almost impossible for high handicap golfers to play it. It is a par-72, 7,163 yard golf course. The club has electric carts, and push carts for rental, driving range and pro-shop. El Potrerillo de Larreta golf course has recently been distinguished by renowned golf course designer Tom Doak, in his book “The Confidential Guide to golf courses”, with the highest rating of 18-hole golf courses throughout Central and South America, and included among its favourite 18 golf courses in all America (winter destinations).
