Overview
On cliff tops along the rugged coast of Isabela, Puerto Rico, the Atlantic Ocean has carved faces of Taino warriors, and wind-sculpted trees hug the land. This is where Stanley and Charlie Pasarell spent years hitting golf balls. Discovering tees, fairways and greens, they were inspired by this spiritual place. The result: Royal Isabela.
Royal Isabela is a vibrant community of residents and lodge guests that believe in the ideals of preservation, conservation and sustainability, without having to sacrifice luxury.
In creating the Golf Links, the Club and the Lodge at Royal Isabela, paramount importance has been placed on protecting the existing contours, natural features and native flora and fauna along this oceanfront land. Every aspect of Royal Isabela's design has evolved out of the land itself. This respect for nature not only provides an idyllic environment for Royal Isabela's residents and guests, but it also insures the preservation of its unique ecosystem.
Brothers Stanley and Charlie Pasarell envisioned and designed the course with great passion for the land and the game. Through a collaboration with architect David W. Pfaff, they brought their vision to breathtaking reality. Created on site, not on paper, the design evolved from the land itself. Their hands-on and minimal-impact approach pays tribute to the Golf Links' majestic partner: nature.
The landscape's native grasses, natural sand dunes and deep canyons are integral to the layout, while sod-faced bunkers add a Scottish flair to this island gem. These elements, along with trade winds that are your friend one moment and your foe the next, shape the course's character and captivate the golf purist. Each hole provides a unique test. In fact, Royal Isabela is not limited to one signature moment. Mother Nature has provided them continuously from start to finish. A legacy has been created here, one of appreciation for the environment and of respect for its history.
