Overview

When Charalambos Tsaousoglou bought the Xenia hotel in Corfu in 1965, his cousin Cleon Kedros of Trieste, a keen golfer, and his good friend Mr. Constantine Karamanlis, ex president of the Greek democracy, advised him that Corfu needed a golf course if it was to become a high quality tourist resort.

A large area of the island in Ropa Valley was purchased, and in 1967 Donald Harradine, the Swiss based golf course architect, was commissioned to build the course, which he completed in 1971. The Club house was designed by the well-known Greek architect Mr.  Hatzimichalis and constructed out of local stone.

Anna Kedros, daughter of Cleon Kedros, inaugurated the course by driving the first ball, and as a memorial to her father his friend Constantine Pisani of Trieste donated the Kedros Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the Open Championship, held annually in May.

Tom Scott, former Editor of ‘’Golf Illustrated‘’ and founder member of the Association of Golf Writers, was a great lover of the island of Corfu and did much to promote Corfu Golf Club. In his memory, the Club provided a special seat with a plaque and planted a tree in his honor at the first tee, where he spent so many happy hours during the championships, encouraging players and giving many the benefit of his caustic Scottish wit. As a further memorial, the Tom Scott Challenge Cup for senior players is held during the championships.

Malcolm Campbell, former editor of Golf Monthly and author of many golfing books, has followed Tom Scott in his affection for the course, which he often plays and which he never ceases to praise in his articles and publications.

In the 1980’s the Club was passed into the capable hands of Mr. Tsaousoglou ‘s son, Constantine, who is also in the driving seat of the ex-Hilton, now Corfu Holiday Palace Hotel.

Between 2005 and 2008 the Golf Course and Club House underwent renovation including the purchase of a new fleet of Toro machinery and a new Toro irrigation system.
